Dietary Fibers & Diabetes II

Today, more than 2% of the Western world population suffers from diabetes II. A person with diabetes has a 4-5 fold increased risk of getting coronary heart diseases. About 50% of all deaths in persons with diabetes II are linked to cardiovascular diseases as the underlying cause of death. Diabetes II is strongly associated with overweight and obesity.

There is increasing scientific support indicating that viscous soluble fibers reduce the risk of developing diabetes II. Apart from regulating weight and thereby indirectly preventing the risk of diabetes II, viscous soluble fibers have been demonstrated to have beneficial effects on blood glucose concentrations. Higher intake of dietary fibers is therefore recommended as part of a healthy diet for people with diabetes II.
