Gastrointestinal disorders
Gastrointestinal disorders are increasing problems. About half of the Norwegian population over 70 years old, have developed diverticulosis, and Norway has one of the highest frequencies of colon cancer. These conditions are associated with a diet high in fat and low in dietary fibers.
Between 30-60% of all adults have problems in digestive problems, such as constipation.
It is well known that dietary fibers regulates the bowel movement and promotes laxation, thereby preventing constipation and other digestive problems. Moreover, a high intake of dietary fibers is shown to reduce the risk of colon cancer with approximately 25% versus a low dietary fiber diet.
